Our Story

Central Florida Health Care was founded in 1972 in response to critical gaps in health care identified by the agricultural community. A local citrus processing firm recognized the importance of adequate health care, social services and childcare for farmworkers in Frostproof, Florida. The first clinic opened with a doctor and a nurse and began serving the farm workers in that community.

Over the next decade, we expanded to Wauchula (Hardee County) in 1975 and Avon Park (Highlands County) in 1980. Further growth came as sites were opened in Dundee, Lakeland, Winter Haven, Lake Wales (Dental) and Mulberry. In 2016, we opened Dundee Pediatrics, Lakeland Pediatrics, Magnolia Women and Children’s clinic in Winter Haven and Lake Wales Medical and Dental clinic. And in early 2017 we opened a new clinic in Haines City.

CFHC has a committed and supportive community-based volunteer board of directors who work and/or live in the communities we serve. The majority of our board members are also patients at our clinics.

In 1973, Central Florida Health Care, Inc. was recognized as a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. We receive funding from HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration), local funding, reimbursement from insurance companies, and payment from patients who have no form of insurance and qualify through a sliding fee scale.

In 2016, we provided care for 34,870 patients. We take great pride in following our mission, vision and overarching goal by seeking out those who need our services.

We are dedicated to identify grants and funding opportunities that will support our current endeavors as well as assist us in expanding our services so we can continue to meet the needs of our community.
